Memory Stick D Verde: Silverlining / Creative Writing /Regular Session / Writing partly based on Two poems for Friday 19th December 2025

2 poems using the following 2 poems as a starting point.  Written at the bottom of these two previously published and well known poems are my following two poems:

1. Christmas for me

you see

Is very different now

And:

2. Noel Noel!

They sing

Giving the bells a ring

An extract from 'Another Night Before Christmas'

By Carol Ann Duffy

On the night before Christmas, a child in a house,
As the whole family slept, behaved just like a mouse . . .
And crept on soft toes down red-carpeted stairs.
Her hand held the paw of her favourite bear.

The Christmas tree posed with its lights in its arms,
Newly tinselled and baubled with glittering charms;
Flirting in flickers of crimson and green
Against the dull glass of the mute TV screen

The hushed street was in darkness. Snow duveted the cars –
A stray cat had embroidered each roof with its paws.
An owl on an aerial had planets for eyes.
The child at the window stared up at the sky,

Where two aeroplanes sped to the east and the west,
Like a pulled Christmas cracker. The child held her breath
And looked for a sign up above, as the moon
Shone down like a gold chocolate coin on the town.

Little Tree – E.E Cummings

little tree

little silent Christmas tree

you are so little

you are more like a flower

who found you in the green forest

and were you very sorry to come away?

See I will comfort you

because you smell so sweetly

I will kiss your cool bark

and hug you safe and tight

just as your mother would,

only don't be afraid

look the spangles

that sleep all the year in a dark box

dreaming of being taken out and allowed to shine,

the balls the chains red and gold the fluffy threads,

put up your little arms

and I’ll give them all to you to hold

every finger shall have its ring

and there won't be a single place dark or unhappy

then when you're quite dressed

you'll stand in the window for everyone to see

and how they'll stare!

oh but you'll be very proud

and my little sister and I will take hands

and looking up at our beautiful tree

we'll dance and sing

"Noel Noel"

1. Christmas for me

you see

Is very different now

1. Christmas for me

you see

Is very different now

From when I used to kow-tow

To the new fangled

star spangled

Gregorian calendar

And its glitzy lavendar

From 1581

Trying to deprive us of our traditional fun

Now

You see brown cow

I celebrate

And prognosticate

On the original calendar

With thus discounted lavendar

On the liturgical 25th of December

Which is January the seventh, remember

In the civil calendar

And all its lavendar

Outside of Mount Athos

So I am happy not cross

Having listened to the Vespers online

And on Christmas day a liturgy does just fine!

2. Noel Noel!

They sing

Giving the bells a ring

2. Noel Noel!

They sing

Giving the bells a ring

Confident,

they think

That the devil´s trident

Won´t consign them to hell

But as they skate

Their fate

Outside the rink

Could take a nasty dink

They haven´t fasted

In parties they´ve just blasted

Advent

For them is just one long glutonous event

And their Christmas

Just a continuation

of this over-saturation

In which people over-spend

On presents

And pheasants

Often going around the bend.

After this splurge

Sadly there is a surge

In lonely death

With many left bereft

And an increase

Not a decrease

In divorce

For those whose marriage has sadly

And altogether badly

Run its course.

I hope

That they can cope

And that in good time

They can return

Rather than spurn

To the old times

With all our lovely chimes

And fast

Eating the same repast

And then celebrate

With me

You see!
